Statement of Need
The findings from the 2011 NECLA Affiliate Community Profile revealed gaps due to lack of insurance/ finances for breast screenings and breast cancer treatment, lack of knowledge concerning breast health and community resources and a need to increase awareness in our target parishes.
Drawing from the profile, the NECLA Affiliate has identified Avoyelles, Concordia, East Carroll, Morehouse, Tensas and West Carroll parishes as areas of need due to their high incidence and mortality rates. We are seeking proposals that improve outcomes for individuals living in those communities. We will consider funding applications that:
1. Improve knowledge of breast health/cancer as evidenced by entry into the continuum of care (e.g. as a result of education a woman obtains a mammogram)
2. Reduce financial and insurance barriers for individuals accessing the continuum of care
3. Address transportation barriers to individuals accessing the continuum of care
The Community Profile is a needs assessment document that provides an overview of Komen’s grant-making priorities and the breast health needs in our service area. Please familiarize yourself with this document before developing your applications.
